Meth Use Can Lead To Severe Burns

Some of the most terrifying and disfiguring burns Night Nurse "Anna" has ever seen, were those of patients who had set themselves on fire through the manufacturing of, or use of methamphetamines. Anna states, "Many of the people with the burns had already been disfigured by the use of meth, there eyes are sunken, their bone structure shows through their scabbed faces, and their teeth are broken, leaving only septic holes and jagged shards."

Anna's description of meth users may sound over-the-top and grim, but it is accurate. "Then, with the burns, it adds a whole new layer of terror."

The burns Anna is referring to, come from the large rise in victims that come into the ER with severe third-degree burns. The most notable reason for the rise in burns can be attributed to a new form of "cooking" (manufacturing) meth. Known as "Shake and Bake Meth," this process includes putting all over the raw materials to make methamphetamine into an empty 2-liter bottle, and then shaking the ingredients vigorously.

A spokesperson from New Dawn Recovery states, "This is such a new form of the drug that not a lot is known about it. We do know, however, that this is a dangerous form of the drug, as impurities and raw, caustic, flammable, poisonous ingredients can remain unrefined and carry their own dangers."

Aside from the dangers of ingesting the final product of this method, the method itself is incredibly dangerous. The ingredients combined to make the meth, have to be combined in the exact, specific quatities, otherwise the bottle and entire mixture will explode into a searing-hot ball of flame. The flammable raw materials cling to the skin and continue to fuel the fire like gasoline, slowly cooking and incinerating the flesh off of bone.

The shake and bake process, and its victims, are just another reminder of how terrible methamphetamine is. As if we needed another ghastly reminder of why meth use should be avoided at all costs, here we have a shocking one.

Methamphetamine addiction is a treatable condition. There is hope for those addicted to this devastating drug. Holiday Shopping... For Insurance?

The shopping season is upon us and people all around the world have got their lists made and are beginning to find deals in retail stores, as well as online. But there are more deals to be found than just your 70% off electronics.

It may sound strange, but this is actually the time to be shopping around for insurance. Health and life insurance policies can be shopped any time of the year (though enrollment periods may apply) and few people are aware that insurance rates can be considerably lower at this time of year. The reason for this is because no one is necessarily thinking about insurance right now.

The truth of the matter is that the fourth quarter is about to end for all companies, including insurance companies. Eager to make sales before the beginning of the year, many insurance companies offer their own deals on new policies during the holiday season.

Addiction: Mental, Physical, Dual

The medical industry is learning more and more each day about just how addiction works. We know that it affects an afflicted individual both mentally and physically, but we are beginning to go deeper and realize the true cause of addiction. Somewhere down the line, a person made the decision to partake in either drugs and/or alcohol, and further down the line, they became chemically dependent on that substance.

Dual diagnosis residential treatment programs attack the addiction from two points. First: what was the underlying condition that caused the person to take the chemical for the first time? Second: how do we get the individual to stop using, and continue to not use the drug anymore? New Dawn Treatment Center wholeheartedly approaches these questions in order to effectively treat all parts of the chemical dependency.

First off, they find what underlying condition (i.e. depression, mental disorders, stress, anxiety, pain) prompted the individual to find a solution in drugs and/or alcohol. This is integral; this issue must be addressed or else treating the addiction itself head-on will not be effective. If there is an issue with depression or physical pain, drug treatment counselors must discover a way to treat that issue, then allow for the individual to be weened off of the drugs that were keeping him/her at-bay.

Though this approach requires much more work than more traditional strategies, it is a much more solid long-term solution to addiction that also lessens the chances of relapse.

12 Step Treatment Centers

The 12 step recovery program has long been hailed as the best addiction treatment technique to provide successful recovery. The reason physicians are so adamant of the use of this technique is because of the inherent structure of the 12 steps. The steps carve out a very definite path for the addict; from disease to recovery, the road to wellness is well lit.

More and more recovery and treatment centers are adapting the 12 step model and combining it with other new and innovative forms of treatment. Treatment programs such as Christian rehabs and dual-diagnosis programs also have adopted the 12 steps at a sort of a foundation that drives all of the other aspects of the treatment program.

One such treatment center employing this practice is Above It All Treatment Center in California. Located high up in the mountains northeast of Los Angeles,  Above it All holds the 12 step method in high regard and has seen first-hand the success-driven results of its use.
